Is it ok for me to see a different provider once I have started counseling with one provider?
We encourage you to take your time finding the best fit for you. Once you have selected a provider, it is generally best to discuss any concerns that might arise with your provider. You can then come to an agreement about how best to proceed.

Can I see a different provider than my spouse?
If your issue does not involve your spouse, you can absolutely see another provider. If your spouse is involved, then it would be wise to discuss with the provider what the best course of action might be.

Why is it important for me (parent of patient) to be present for the first appointment?
Children are influenced by both parents—even if one does not live with the child and the other parent. Whether that influence might be playing a role in your child’s behavior can only be determined by a meeting with both parents and the perspective that each parent brings to your child’s development.

Why do I have to fill out an intake packet when these are questions I expected to go over in therapy with a therapist?
There are two good reasons to complete the intake paperwork prior to the first appointment. First, doing so gives you a chance to reflect on the elements and circumstances in your life that may be contributing to the present situation. Second, it helps your therapist understand a little bit about what you feel may be important or perhaps would like to discuss further. In addition, you and your therapist will be better prepared to ‘hit the ground running’ in that first meeting together.

Can I get my depression medication from one of your providers?
Currently, we do not have a psychiatrist or advanced practice nurse on our staff. Some medications (if indeed they are necessary) may be able to be prescribed by your primary care provider. Other medications will require a referral to one of the psychiatric service providers that we work with.

I think my child has A.D.D., do you test for that?
Like many behavioral health conditions, ADHD is often influenced by both biological and social/behavioral factors, and frequently requires the collaboration of your child’s pediatrician as well as the behavioral health counselor. Both our medical and behavioral health staff have a number of ways to assess ADHD and make appropriate therapeutic recommendations.
