FLORENCE and AMHERST, MA – Florence Bank is contributing a total of $25,000 over a five year period to the Hilltown Community Health Center to assist them in building and operating the planned John P. Musante Home Health Center.

The new site, which will occupy 4100 square feet in the lower level of the Bangs Community Center in Amherst, is named for the late Amherst Town Manager John P. Musante, who was instrumental in promoting the concept of bringing such a facility to Amherst. Fundraising for the $2.25 million project has come from a federal grant, as well as a capital campaign. Current plans are to open the Center in 2017; when fully staffed, it will have more than a dozen professionals, including two medical providers, two dental providers, community health worker, and support staff.

The Center will provide medical, dental and behavioral care to anyone regardless of their ability to pay. Eliza Lake, Executive Director of Hilltown Community Health Center, said “We will serve the residents of Amherst and surrounding communities who have not been able to receive these services due to insurance status, or language, cultural or transportation barriers. We are really excited to increase the capacity of the community to meet its residents’ health care needs.” She added, “The donation from Florence Bank is incredibly generous, and we appreciate what a strong commitment it has to the community.”

“We’re proud to be a part of this project and the Hilltown Community Health Center’s mission to make quality health care services more accessible to the people of the Pioneer Valley,” said John F. Heaps, Jr., President and CEO of Florence Bank. “We thank them for their good work over the decades and we all look forward to the opening of the John P. Musante Home Health Center next year.”
