HCHC Gears Up for National Health Center Week

Hilltown Community Health CenterEvents

Maybe you’ve noticed a few dozen lawn signs popping up throughout the hilltowns announcing an event at Knightville Dam called “Keys to Healthy Hilltowns”. Hilltown Community Health Centers, Inc. will be celebrating National Health Center Week on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Knightville Dam in Huntington. All Hilltown residents are invited to join in a day of community and promoting healthy living. This a free, open event and all are welcome. Presentations and activities for all ages will take place from 10am -2 pm. Play group and storybook walk will start at 10am. Our health center nutritionist, Joanna Martin, will demonstrate how to prepare an easy, healthy snack. You will have an opportunity to make your own walking stick. A ”rolling parade” [strollers, trikes, wheelchairs] will be happening and you are encouraged to decorate your “wheels”. Mother Goose will be appearing in person.  Health center staff will be available to help with scheduling mammograms at area hospitals. Chair massage will be offered to those who schedule their overdue mammogram.

Walking will start at 7am, before the heat of the day rises and will continue throughout the day. Stop on your way to or from work and walk with us or make a special effort to get out to walk with other hilltowners. A changing tent will be available for those who need to change clothes. Whether you are a veteran walker or just interested in getting started you are encouraged to join health center staff in walking for better health. Walkers of all abilities are welcome.

When you need a break from walking there will be activities, demonstrations, snacks and information on healthy living for all ages under the pavilion and on the lawn.
