Jim Brassord, Amherst Resident and Rower Extraordinaire Partners with Hilltown Community Health Center

Hilltown Community Health Center News

Jim Brassord, Amherst resident and rower extraordinaire has partnered with Hilltown Community Health Center to assist us in securing funds to complete the vision that John P. Musante championed – having an affordable and accessible health care center in Amherst. How will Jim do this?

By rowing 1,400 miles from Miami to New York City!

As a friend of the late John Musante, and a life-long endurance athlete, Jim has the mindset for this extreme row. He’s competed in more than twenty marathons and five Ironman Triathlons. He sees the Miami to New York City row as a way of channeling his endurance athletic drive in a way that can honor John’s legacy and benefit the community.

The Miami 2 NYC challenge will begin on or around May 1, 2017 along the historic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). He will complete his journey in an 18′ Little River Heritage rowing shell using nothing but his own human power. He will be completely self-sufficient. No chase boat. No 24-7 support team. He will sleep primarily in his boat or in a tent on land nearby. He will go nonstop unless weather prevents him from doing so safely. He will pack and prepare most of his food unless some kind person gives him food or he finds places to stop where he can re-provision and rest.

It’s a remarkable feat and we are deeply honored that Jim has chosen to direct all contributions to the John P. Musante Health Center, named in memory of John Musante, the late Amherst Town Manager.
