MyChart Access for Parents and Guardians of Teens Ages 12–17
At Hilltown Community Health Center (HCHC), we are committed to protecting your teen’s privacy while supporting families in their healthcare journey.
What changes when my child turns 12?
When your child turns 12, their MyChart account automatically transitions to limited parent or guardian proxy access. This change is intended to protect adolescent privacy and confidentiality in accordance with applicable Massachusetts laws and privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
This change applies to access to your teen’s medical information through MyChart. Parent and guardian proxy access is limited to basic registration information and available proxy features.
What can parents and guardians still do?
Even with limited MyChart access, you can continue to support your teen’s healthcare by:
- Contacting their care team: You may still call and speak with your teen’s healthcare providers and care team.
- Receiving appointment reminders: Parents and guardians with proxy access will continue to receive appointment reminders.
- Supporting their healthcare journey: We encourage open communication with your teen about their health and healthcare decisions.
Your teen can receive access to their own secure MyChart account at their next visit to HCHC.
Why is this change important?
Adolescence is a time of significant physical, emotional, and social development. Protecting the privacy of young patients helps create a safe, supportive environment where teens can feel comfortable discussing their healthcare needs.
At HCHC, we believe that open communication, respect, and confidentiality are essential to providing high-quality, whole-person care. We are here to help both parents and teens understand these changes and navigate their healthcare options.
